Mitchell Wilbekin Commits to Wake Forest

Mitchell Wilbekin, who initially committed to play for Danny Manning at Tulsa, has committed to play for Wake Forest University following his official visit this past weekend. Wilbekin had originally scheduled to visit the University of Virginia following his Wake Forest official visit, but cancelled the visit instead. He comes to Wake Forest from The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. Evan Daniels was first to report.

Wilbekin, who is the younger brother of Florida's Scottie Wilbekin, lives up to the family name with his great shooting ability. He can play both guard positions, which will give Danny Manning far more options when making lineup decisions. Mitchell will probably be the best shooter on the team when he steps on campus this summer and definitely will have an opportunity to be a starter when the Deacons tip off in November. If Wilbekin starts at point, then Codi Miller-McIntyre would play the two guard and could potentially better use his slashing ability.

Last season Wilbekin averaged 15 points, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals en route to being named the Sunshine State Independent Athletic Association Player of the Year.

Mitchell Wilbekin will join Rondale Watson in Wake Forest's 2014 recruiting class. It's also possible that there will be another addition to the class in shooting guard Jordan Cornish. Please join me in welcoming Mitchell to Wake Forest! You can follow him on Twitter @Mwilbekin1.
