Michael Dyer Questionable To Play Against Virginia

Michael Dyer is listed second on U of L's running back depth chart this week, but it sounds like Louisville fans may have to wait a little bit longer before getting their first 2014 look at the former BCS championship game MVP.

Check out the full ACC Football Injury report.

Addressing the media after practice on Thursday, Bobby Petrino said that while Dyer has practiced the past two days, his thigh is still sore and may keep him sidelined for a third straight week. Petrino added that while Dyer is eager to get back on the field, he's dealing with atrophy in the thigh, which he injured during U of L's open scrimmage on Aug. 16.

Dyer missed significant time last season because of injuries, and wound up carrying the ball 44 times for just 223 yards. He looked like a different player in Louisville's Spring Game, and was projected to enter the season behind only Dominique Brown on the Cardinal depth chart.

If Dyer is unable to go, then it's likely that reigning ACC Rookie of the Week L.J. Scott will receive the lion's share of the carries that don't go to Brown. Scott hasn't been the second back to get touches in each of Louisville's first two games.

While we're all eager to see Dyer finally take the field again, sending him out there at 75 or 80 percent does little good for the team, especially when you look at what Scott did last week. If the offense was okay without Dyer against Miami, then his absence shouldn't be the difference between winning and losing against Virginia.
