The Cards picked up a valuable piece for the future Thursday night.

Louisville basketball has landed some outside shooting help for the future in the form of Miami transfer Matt Cross, who committed to the program Thursday night.

A former four-star recruit, Cross’ freshman season came to an abrupt end on Jan. 28 when it was announced that he and Miami would be mutually parting ways. Before that, Cross was averaging 6.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He was the first freshman to start a Hurricane season-opener since 2013.

Ironically, the most impressive performance of Cross’ college career to date came against Louisville. The 6’7 forward torched the Cards from the outside, drilling 4-of-7 three-pointers and scoring 16 points in the Hurricanes’ 78-72 upset.

Cross’ skillset would seem to fit perfectly into what Chris Mack likes to do on both ends of the floor, and his shooting ability is an asset that the Cards could clearly use right now.

It’s also worth mentioning that the last transfer Louisville received by way of Jim Larranaga wound up working out pretty well.
