Madison Jones Dismissed From Wake Forest Basketball Team

The Deacs' senior class just got smaller.

Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning announced this morning that Madison Jones has been dismissed from the basketball team for a violation of Athletics Department policy. Jones, who was previously suspended on March 24, 2015 and reinstated on May 20, 2015, averaged 4.7 points and 3.0 assists per game last season. Wake Forest's seven-man recruiting class from 2012 will have just three original members (Codi Miller-McIntyre, Devin Thomas, and Andre Washington) play their senior seasons for Wake Forest University. What does the loss of Jones mean to Wake Forest's 2015-2016 team?

To be honest, this loss does not greatly impact Wake Forest's basketball team for this season. Wake Forest added 4-star point guard Bryant Crawford in its 2015 recruiting class, and Crawford would have presumably taken the majority of Jones' minutes. In addition, one would expect Mitchell Wilbekin to play some more point guard if needed. Jones had an offensive rating of just 87.4 last season, but Jones has consistently been a good defender, and that's primarily where Wake will miss his presence. Jones' best performance of his career probably came against Virginia Tech last season. He went 3-4 from the field and made two big free throws to help secure a victory.

We wish Madison the best moving forward.
