In Duke’s last exhibition game they came out sloppily mostly due to the fact that they were playing unconventional lineups and were without Matt Jones 3 minutes into the game. Clearly the time in between treated the Devils nicely as they came out and fired on all cylinders against Augustana.

Box Score

There were still an inordinate amount of turnovers(15) but the Blue Devils offense functioned with much better efficiency and defensively Duke was on point. Duke forced Augustana into 22 turnovers which Duke converted into 27 points.

Duke also won the rebounding battle 59 to 26. Despite the lopsided score 98 – 45 there were areas where Duke will look to improve from this outing. Turnovers, mentioned earlier, is still an issue for this team but Duke’s young point guard Frank Jackson not the culprit. The freshman point guard scored 16 points and dished 4 assists, Jackson also went 2-4 from beyond the arc. Duke also did not make it to 70% from the free throw line going 29 of 42. Duke also struggled from beyond the arc only shooting 7 or 25 for 28%.

Duke was lead in scoring for the second straight game by Sophomore Luke Kennard who again looked comfortable both running the offense and getting his shot off the dribble. Kennard netted 17 on 7 of 13 shooting but only 2 or 6 from 3. Grayson Allen and Chase Jeter scored 16 and 15 respectively.

Chase Jeter got the start as Duke elected to rest freshman center Marques Bolden. Jeter made the most of his opportunity avenging a subpar outing in Dukes first scrimmage. In addition to his 15 points Jeter also pulled down 112 boards. Jeter looked much more confident finishing plays at the rim getting valuable minutes with Bolden being out.
