Eric van der Heijden, a four-star forward out of Raleigh, announced Friday afternoon that he will be playing his college basketball for Chris Mack at Louisville.

Heijden picked the Cardinals over a host of potential suitors, including Maryland, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Marquette and Texas. He becomes the fourth member of Louisville’s 2021 recruiting class, joining small forward Bryce Hopkins from Chicago, top-ranked JuCo star El Ellis, and four-star point guard Bobby Pettiford Jr. out of Creedmoor, N.C.

Standing 6’9 and weighing 205-pounds, Heijden’s primary asset is his versatility.

From 247 Sports’ Evan Daniels:

A versatile forward with plus size for a combo forward. Van Der Heijden moves fluidly and is fine athletically. He impresses with his skill. He’s a good passer with either hand and has impressive vision and feel. He also impacts the game with his shooting. He’s very good off the catch and has range well past the three-point stripe.

In his junior year at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, Heijden posted averages of 12.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists. 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. He’s currently ranked as the 72nd-best overall player in the 2021 class by 247 Sports.

Here’s your newest Cardinal commit in action:

Welcome to The Ville, Eric.
