With a little over two weeks to go until the start of the 2020-21 season, the injury bug continues to eviscerate the Louisville men’s basketball team.

U of L announced Monday that graduate transfer Charles Minlend will be out for six weeks while recovering from a sprained MCL in his left knee that he suffered during practice last Thursday.

“Charles suffered a tear in his left MCL from practice last Thursday,” said U of L head coach Chris Mack in a statement. “He was having a good preseason to that point. He has been a positive presence every day from the moment he arrived in June. We will miss him on the floor until mid-December. Knowing Charles, he will do everything needed to get back on the floor ready to go.”

Minlend joins Samuell Williamson, Josh Nickelberry and Malik Williams as Cardinal players currently dealing with injuries. Williams, it was announced over the weekend, will be out for at least 12 weeks with a right foot injury that required surgery.

Get ready for an unusual starting lineup and a thin bench to begin this season. Here’s hoping the young guys can’t get some valuable early experience without the team having to take some humbling losses in the process.

Also, Carlik Jones had better be as good as advertised, and the sophomore leaps that we’re all expecting from David Johnson and Williamson (when he’s healthy) need to come to fruition.
