Players only meeting season is back, y’all.

During his portion of U of L’s pre-Syracuse press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Cardinal senior Dwayne Sutton revealed that Louisville recently held a players only meeting to try and curb the recent downward trend of their 2019-20 season. According to Sutton, the meeting was called by himself, Malik Williams and Ryan McMahon, the team’s three captains.

“The mood has been pretty upbeat actually,” Sutton said. “We had a players only meeting to talk about what it’s going to take to get back to our winning ways. I feel like we’re all positive sprits and ready to get back and get some wins.”

Sutton added that Williams was the most vocal player during the meeting, and that everyone seemed to leave with a renewed focus and energy.

U of L head coach Chris Mack seemed encouraged that the players took it upon themselves to take this step.

“I think it shows they care,” Mack said. “It’s their team. I tell these guys that all the time. I’m glad it means that much to them.”

This is not the first time we’ve seen Louisville hold a players only meeting to try and deal with some in-season adversity. Sometimes it’s produced immediate results, other times it’s looked like not much has changed. Ultimately, how significant this meeting was or wasn’t rests with the players and how they look coming up Wednesday night against Syracuse.
