Louisville sophomore guard Josh Nickelberry has announced that he plans to transfer elsewhere to continue his college basketball career.

“Thank you to Coach Mack, my teammates and all of Card Nation of these past two years,” Nickelberry said in a statement. Louisville will always have a special place in my heart and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me.”

The first recruit to ever commit to Mack at Louisville, Nickelberry’s U of L career was plagued by injuries and illness over the last two years. He made a three-pointer in seven of his nine appearances this past season, but averaged just 2.8 points per game.

“I want to thank Josh for his contributions to our program these past two years,” said U of L Head Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Mack. “He has been a terrific representative of our program and unfortunately has had some hard luck with injuries during his time. I understand and support his decision to get a fresh start in college basketball and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Louisville fans should always remember and be thankful not just for Nickelberry being Mack’s first commitment, but in his tireless efforts to help make the rest of the 2019 recruiting class take shape. Best of luck to him with this next move.
