Hubert Davis has navigated the Caleb Wilson injury extremely well

The ACC COY is going to be Duke’s Jon Scheyer or Miami’s Jai Lucas. Virginia’s Ryan Odon is certainly in that mix as well. North Carolina’s Hubert Davis won’t be winning that award, but his coaching since mid-February should be recognized.

On February 10, UNC star freshman Caleb Wilson fractured his left hand against Miami. He was going to be out for several weeks. How Hubert Davis managed his injury would determine their NCAA future.

The Tar Heels have won 5 of 6 games, and beat the Louisville and Clemson teams that will be in the NCAA tournament. There was a blowout to NC State, but that has been the only blemish on the Tar Heels’ record. They likely haven’t even dropped a seed line as they are 24-6 (12-5). They were in the 5-6 seed line range before the injury, and they are still in that same range.

Players like Luka Bogavac, and Seth Trimble have really stepped up their games during Wilson’s absence, and North Carolina will be better for it when Wilson return which may be as early as Saturday against Duke.

This is a team that, when fully equipped, beat Duke. If you can beat the Duke Blue Devils, you can literally beat any team in the country. Since January 10, Duke has played 1 single digit game in the ACC, and that was that loss to UNC.

This is a dangerous team that survived the loss of a NBA caliber player. With Wilson’s return, watch out for North Carolina.
