How Did Day One of Syracuse Basketball Practice Go?

The 2015-16 SU basketball season officially got underway with the first practice of the season on Friday. How's everybody doing?

The 2015-2016 Syracuse Orange basketball season promises to be a fascinating one. How will the NCAA sanctions and non-game suspension affect Jim Boeheim? Will Dajuan Coleman play significant minutes? Will Kaleb Joseph begin evolving into a dependable point guard? Can Michael Gbinije and Trevor Cooney be team leaders? Can this team get back to the NCAA Tournament?

All of those questions will be answered in time. For now, Friday was Day One of practice. So how's that go?

Mike Waters was at the Melo Center for the festivities. The gist of what he saw could be boiled down thusly...

  • Coleman looked healthy, but he did have a moment where it looked like he's still an awkward slip or fall away from re-aggravating the injury that kept him out all of last season. The crucial big man is still in wait-and-see mode.
  • Freshman Tyler Lydon's got...something. Waters isn't sure exactly what but the young man showed off some athleticism that's a good sign for the near future.
  • Gbinije spent a lot of time running point, though he did also spend time at the small forward spot.
  • Freshman Malachi Richardson also saw time at two positions, guard and small forward.
  • Paschal Chukwu is really tall. Damn.

Also, Waters doesn't mention it but our James Szuba noticed in the video at the bottom that Kaleb Joseph seems to have muscled up a little bit, which can't be a bad thing.
