Georgia Tech will be without 3 key contributors against Louisville

Rough news for the Ramblin Wreck.

When Louisville faces Georgia Tech in Atlanta Saturday afternoon, the Yellow Jackets will be playing without three key contributors, including their leading scorer.

Jose Alvarado, GT’s pace-setter at 13.7 ppg, will miss the game because of a groin injury. Fellow starter Brandon Alston (9.6 ppg) is out because of a “personal matter,” and reserve Abdoulaye Gueye (5.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg) is sidelined due to a “unspecified medical conditon.”

“We’re going to have to be near perfect (against Louisville), especially with us being extremely limited now with some of our guys, some of our numbers,” Tech head coach Josh Pastner told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Without Alvarado, the team’s leading scorer becomes the talented but inconsistent James Banks III. A Texas transfer, Banks III has scored 16 or more points in three of the Yellow Jackets’ four ACC games, but netted just two in the other. Skilled freshman guard Michael Devoe (8.7 ppg) will almost certainly assume the role of point guard.

Georgia Tech is one of the best defensive teams in the ACC, ranking 13th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, they’ve struggled mightily on the other end of the floor and rank dead last in the conference in scoring offense.

“As I like to say, there is no ‘Woe is me’ syndrome or anything like that,” Pastner said. “No blame game. We’ve got to find a way. Everybody’s gotta be ready to go.”
