Pitt point guard Femi Odukale suffered a broken arm during a traffic accident over the weekend, and as a result, he will be out indefinitely, according to Chris Peak of Panther-Lair. The accident occurred as Odukale was riding a moped and collided with a car. He suffered multiple non-life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery on his broken arm.

The timeline for Odukale’s recovery is not entirely clear, but Jeff Capel and the Pitt coaching staff believe the freshman will return at some point during the 2020-21 season.

Odukale, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was expected to contribute immediately at Pitt, and Capel praised his maturity and versatility when the three-star recruit signed with Pitt.

“Femi displayed outstanding versatility, talent, toughness and competitiveness during an outstanding post-grad season,” Capel said in a statement provided by Pitt in April. “He is mentally and physically mature and will have an opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact next season.”

The 6’5”, 190-pound point guard averaged 17.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game at the Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Massachusetts last season. He also proved to be a reliable shooter, as he converted on 39 percent of his three-point shots and shot 52 percent from the field.

Odukale would have helped address the backcourt depth issues created by the departures of Trey McGowens and Ryan Murphy this offseason. However, with Odukale out, the team still has Xavier Johnson and Ithiel Horton as likely starters at point guard and shooting guard as well as Au’Diese Toney, Nike Sibande and Gerald Drumgoole.
