It’s close, it’s so very close. With the release of today’s College Football Coaches Poll, the college football season is not far off. Let’s take a look at the poll. You can find the Coach’s Poll Top 25 at USA Today.  Did they get the poll right? Let’s analyze each team, and who should have really been where.

COACHES RANK TEAM ANALYSIS CORRECT TEAM
1

Alabama

Who’s going to argue about Alabama being #1? Alabama
2

Ohio St.

The Big 10 schedule is a gift, but this is not the 2nd best team in the country. Got by on smoke and mirrors several times last year. Stanford
3

Oregon

No Chip Kelly, but there is Marcus Mariota. I think there will be a dropoff, but not much. Texas A&M
4

Stanford

Stanford just lines up and smashes you. I love their offense. Should be higher. Oregon
5

Georgia

Tremendous at RB and QB, but how are the Dawgs going to stop anyone? South Carolina
6

Texas A&M

Let’s assume Johnny Football has got his distractions behind him. Was there anyone playing any better football at the end of last year? Ohio State
7

South Carolina

Why would I rank Georgia ahead of South Carolina? I’m pretty sure I watched the Gamecocks destroy Georgia 35-7 in Columbia. Clemson
8

Clemson

Clemson is in the correct spot in the 7-9 range. It was a wonderful win over LSU, but the defense is still suspect. Louisville
9

Louisville

Louisville is a lot like Clemson. Great QB, great bowl win over a top ten SEC opponent. The Cards took out Florida, but some suspect moments. Top 10 team for sure, with an easy schedule. Georgia
10

Florida

I think we all agree on Florida here. 10 here, 10 for me now and in the spring. Florida
11

Notre Dame

This is a little high for Notre Dame. They were a handful of plays from being 8-4. Florida St.
12

Florida St.

Just outside the top 10 is about right for a team with a lot of talent, but some inexperience in spots. LSU
13

LSU

Remember what I said about FSU, ditto for LSU. Florida State and LSU basically stocked the NFL draft. Notre Dame
14

Oklahoma St.

Putting a 5 loss team that gave up points as fast they scored them? The Cowboys are top 25 team, but top 15? Texas
15

Texas

That Ole Miss team everyone fell in love with, lost by 35 at home to Texas. The Longhorns have underachieved given their resources, but they are still pretty good. Oklahoma
16

Oklahoma

I’ve dropped the Sooners since the spring. There’s a new QB, and it’s clear the Sooners are notch below the nation’s elite teams. TCU
17

Michigan

Who did Michigan beat last season? Anybody of note I guess there was the Northwestern win. 17 is a bit high for a team that hasn’t really proven anything. Boise. St
18

Nebraska

These Big 10 teams get a lot of credit. As I look over their schedules I’m not seeing many if any quality non-conference wins. Each one so far is at least 4 spots higher than they belong. Northwestern
19

Boise St.

I have Boise St. at 18, so it’s close. The Broncos could work themselves up all season. Vanderbilt
20

TCU

TCU is a tough team to guage. I’ve seen them picked to win the Big 12 and lose 5-6 games too. Opeing with LSU will tell us where they are right away. They should be good on defense. Oregon St.
21

UCLA

UCLA’s best defensive game of their last 5, was giving 27 to Stanford in a loss. Why are they ranked ahead Oregon St. ? Oklahoma St.
22

Northwestern

So many overrated Big 10 teams, and the one that won 10 games and beat two SEC bowl teams, is the underrated one. It’s all about name recognition it seems. Baylor
23

Wisconsin

Wisconsin ranked too I see. I guess the 2-5 Bowl record just didn’t happen. 5 pre-season ranked teams… Got it. Michigan
24

USC

Last time I saw USC, they were getting spanked by a 6-7 Georgia Tech team. I wouldn’t even rank them until I see something from Lane Kiffen that shows he’s figured out this coaching thing. Miami
25

Oregon St.

I’m higher on Oregon St. than the coaches. This was a good team last season. Northern Illinois
