Game Recap

Wake Forest snapped a mini three game losing streak with a big victory over Georgia Tech

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (10-16, 3-11) knocked off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (11-15, 5-9) 79-62 in front of a small, but enthusiastic crowd.

Regardless of the crowd size, the Deacs were clearly happy to be playing at home and used a hot start and a 10-0 run in the first half to take a 44-36 lead at the half.

Bryant Crawford played one of the best games he has played all year, contributing 7 points and 7 assists in the first half and coming up just shy of a double-double in the game with 16 points and 9 assists. He also had no turnovers.

In fact, the four guards (Chill, Wilbekin, Woods, and Crawford) combined for 47 points, 15 assists, and just one turnover. For a team that lives and dies with the backcourt this is a very good stat-line.

A new white jersey with a script “Deacons” on the front was unveiled for the first time for the game. It is very similar to the baseball jerseys that the Diamond Deacs sport on a regular basis and are a nice change of pace uniform to use moving forward.

The hot shooting that Wake displayed in the second half against Syracuse rolled over to the first half against Tech, as the Deacs shot 75% (6-8) from behind the arc in the first half. Mitchell Wilbekin his 3-4 and had 9 points at the half.

Doral Moore picked up his 9th straight double-double in ACC play, finishing with a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Georgia Tech has been ravaged by injuries and suspensions this year, and this was the first game dealing with the loss of freshman point guard Jose Alvarado, who sustained a fractured and dislocated left elbow in Sunday’s loss to Duke.

Ben Lammers, Josh Okogie, and Abdoulaye Gueye did their best to pull out a victory for the Yellow Jackets, but there just wasn’t enough help around them to get the road win. This trio combined for 46 of the

In a game that was bogged down by a whistle-happy ref crew this proved to be bad news for Tech. Okogie picked up his 3rd foul before the under-16 timeout of the second half, forcing him off of Crawford, which opened up a lot of things for the Wake Forest offense.

Wake Forest will try to make it two in a row when it hosts N.C. State on Saturday at 4PM in Winston-Salem. Georgia Tech will welcome Virginia Tech to Atlanta at noon on Saturday.
