Nine-time NBA All-Star and Wake Forest legend donates $2.5 million destined towards improvements of team clubhouses and locker rooms.

It has been more than 13 years since Chris Paul racked up the assists and led the Demon Deacons with unrivaled mastery through some of the program’s finest moments in recent memory.

This does not mean that Paul will stop finding new ways to still steer this program in the right direction. The Houston Rockets Point Guard just announced the commitment of $2.5 million to Wake Forest Basketball through the Wake Will Lead campaign.

Paul’s donation will be used towards the expansion and enhancement of clubhouses and locker rooms for both men’s and women’s basketball programs. The preview renderings look amazing as well, as shown by Les Johns in the tweet below. The new men’s locker room will be named in his honor.

Chris Paul made the gift alongside Wake Forest Director of Athletics Ron Wellman during the Chris Paul Family Foundation Charity Golf Classic held today in Winston-Salem. Paul is no stranger to giving it back to the Wake Forest community. In 2007, Paul created the Nathaniel Jones Student Scholarship in honor of his grandfather. In 2017, he joined Wake Forest President Nathan O. Hatch for a leadership talk and Q&A as part of Wake Forest’s Leadership Project.

“Giving back has always been important to my family and me, and Wake Forest is part of my family. The recent investments towards improving Wake Forest Athletics are amazing, and now is the time to give back in a meaningful way.”

This is another great addition to the recent trend of Wake Forest Sports renovations. In addition, this also further emphasizes the feeling of family and belonging between Wake Forest alums and the school’s programs.

Many recruits choose a school because of its history and how many great names the program was able to produce. This is especially true for big time basketball programs. By signaling his commitment to Wake Forest Basketball, Paul is also sending a message that Wake Forest legends and the alumni community, in general, care a great deal about the student-athletes’ success on and off the court.

Paul might have ended his college career in just two years, and had his No. 3 jersey retired in 2013, but he has still not stopped assisting Wake Forest.
