Louisville basketball star Carlik Jones announced on Instagram Saturday afternoon that he plans to go through the 2021 NBA Draft process while keeping alive the option of returning to U of L for one more season.

“After talking to my parents and loved ones, I have decided to enter my name into the 2021 NBA Draft process and see where this road takes me,” Jones said. “While still maintaining my eligibility as a Cardinal, I want to keep all my options open.”

Jones was spectacular in his first season at Louisville. The graduate transfer from Radford earned First Team All-ACC honors and was the runner-up for the ACC Player of the Year award. He was the only player in the ACC to rank among the top six in scoring (16.8 ppg, 6th in the ACC), assists (4.5 apg, 4th), assists/turnovers ratio (2.18, 4th) and free throw percentage (.815, 3rd).

“Throughout all of the ups and downs this season, the one constant was the love shown by the Cardinal Nation,” Jones said. “I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing program. Coach Mack has been everything he said he would be during the recruiting process and more.”

It’s no surprise to see Carlik going through the draft process, but this is the first tangible piece of evidence we’ve received that there is a very real possibility he could play one more season for the Cards.

Whatever he decides to do, he’ll have the fan base’s complete support.
