Pitt lands a three-star wide receiver

Dontavius Butler, a 6'2" 200 pound wide receiver from Florida, committed to Pitt moments ago. Butler chose the Panthers over his other finalist, ACC foe North Carolina State. Butler checks in as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and 24/7. He had other offfers from Temple, Fresno State, and Toledo among others in addition to Pitt and NC State. Butler plays for American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. The Patriots are generally one of the top high school programs in not only Florida, but in the entire country.
Butler joins Darian Street as the second wide receiver commitment for the class. With Dontez Ford as the lone senior receiver, and a number of freshmen on the roster, Pitt may close the books on wide receiver for this class. Butler is now the second commitment from the Sunshine State, joining linebacker Albert Tucker. The coaching staff has really prioritized Florida, and have offered dozens of kids from the state. American Heritage and St. Thomas Aquinas are two very good programs to start have connections with for Pitt.
Butler had a rather quiet season last season with only eight receptions. He seemed to pick up college interest during the Spring with some strong showings at camps. Still, it's noteworthy the lack of production he has had at the high school level.
This now gives Pitt 10 commitments for the class. It's hard to project right the size of this class, but in the 22-24 range would be a safe bet. Pitt still has some work to do in this class. The offensive line needs to add more prospects, and they have yet to land a tight end. Pitt finished strong last season, but the class right now is not ranked very highly.
