Virginia Tech in the running for UConn transfer Juwan Durham

After a weekend visit with Buzz Williams and company in Blacksburg, there is still no word from power forward Juwan Durham on his transfer decision from UCONN.

The 6-foot-11 Sophomore announced his intent to transfer through a tweet on April third.

Durham is the third player to leave UCONN after a lackluster 2016-17 season from Kevin Ollie’s program.

Durham is also considering rival ACC schools Duke and Notre Dame, according to Jon Rothstein.  Villanova is reportedly also shown interest.

The power forward would fill the last scholarship position on the Hokies roster. Despite Durham’s visit, there is still potential for the Hokies to move in another direction with their open scholarship position, as they have also offered Mt. Saint Mary’s transfer guard Miles Wilson.

The two potential transfers in Durham and Wilson appear to be the final candidates for the scholarship spot after 2017 4-star shooting guard M.J. Walker committed to Florida State over the Hokies, UCLA, and a host of others last week.

As for Durham, whole he lacks significant playing time, he could fill a crucial role as the big man this upcoming season.  With Kerry Blackshear Jr.’s health remaining a question and the loss of C Johnny Hamilton and F Zach Leday, Durham could be the answer to many questions surrounding the Hokies depth in the frontcourt.

Durham played 28 games in his season at UCONN and averaged 8.3 minutes per game.  He shot 48% from the field and 37% from the free throw line.
