Game Day Recap:

It was a 64-17 domination for the Hokies on Saturday afternoon against the East Carolina Pirates. The teams faced off in Greenville, NC at the Dowdy- Ficklen Stadium, where Virginia Tech gave the ECU Pirates their third devastating loss of the season.

The Pirates probably thought they had the Hokies right where they wanted them in the first quarter, but they would be sadly mistaken. The bad news came fast for the Pirates, as the Hokies quickly tightened up their game and erased a 17-7 early deficit.

It was a great day for the Hokies overall, scoring 57 unanswered points to close out the victory.

Josh Jackson and Cam Phillips were an unstoppable duo, with both Hokies playing yet another impressive game. Jackson gave Hokie fans a reason to have faith in him, throwing a career-high 372-yards with five touchdowns. Jackson tied a single-game school record by former Hokies Bryan Randall and Jerod Evans. Phillips was breaking records of his own, amassing a  school record 14 catches for 189-yards, and three touchdowns.

The Hokies showed much improvement in their most impressive win yet. Bud Foster’s defense buckled down after a rough start, keeping the ECU Pirates off the scoreboard for the last three quarters. The offense dominated all day long,  especially on the ground, led by Travon McMillian.

The Hokies’ freshmen made an impact as well.  Sean Savoy added a nine-yard touchdown catch, and Jalen Holston had a 1-yard touchdown run, the first of his career.

Hokies fans were pnervous at the start of the game, but once again, the Virginia Tech Hokies did not disappoint, ending the game with a victory.

Up Next:

The Hokies will host the Old Dominion Monarchs in Blacksburg next weekend.
