North Carolina extends scholarship offer to class of 2019 center Will Baker
University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has his sights set on a new target in the class of 2019. It should come as no surprise that it’s an interior player with good size and a nice low-post game.
On Thursday night, Williams extended a scholarship offer to four-star prospect Will Baker.
Baker is a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center from Austin, Texas who currently attends Westlake High School.
The junior standout is currently No. 24 on the 247Sports Composite. He’s considered a top-5 player at his position and in the state of Texas.
Baker has a formidable interior game that boasts solid footwork and nice moves on the low blocks. He’s got good hands that allow him to receive interior passes from teammates and then finish with strong post moves and a quick release.
He’s also got a nice mid-range jump shot that helps him extend his game out to the three-point line. His ability to grab offensive rebounds and go back up for quick scores makes him even more dangerous down low.
His size and length give him the ability to block shots and disrupt others. He’s a good area rebounder and gets his hands on a lot of fifty-fifty balls.
Baker already holds offers from a dozen schools including Auburn, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA.
He’s also got interest in, and from, perennial powers Arizona and Gonzaga. Gonzaga assistant coach Brian Michaelson has been heading up Baker’s recruitment.
It’s still very early in his recruitment, but the 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors Texas to land the talented big man.
