One of the best prospects in the 2018 class had some interesting comments on UNC.

The North Carolina Tar Heels offered a scholarship to 2018 five-star forward Simi Shittu early in August.

UNC expressed their interest in the forward, joining a handful of other teams looking to land the recruit in their 2018 class.

Since then, Roy Williams and his staff have made a push in both the 2018 class and 2019 class as far as offering scholarships go. We haven’t heard much from Shittu after he received his offer until now.

The forward spoke with D1Vision on Thursday to discuss the schools that are recruiting him the hardest.

He listed UNC, Arizona, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ohio State and Arizona State as those schools.

But what he said about UNC is interesting.

Shittu praised the program for winning a national championship but called it more of a “developmental” school. Here’s his exact words via D1Vision:

“They just won the national championship. They’re more of a developmental school. They have a lot of three-and done players. They also have a nice campus as well. It’s a learning environment.”

To be fair, Shittu has a point. The Tar Heels haven’t landed the big one-and-done players like Kentucky, Kansas or Duke has over the years.

But do they really need to?

The fact that Williams has been able to recruit players who will stay for more than a year is a big thing. He’s able to build up the program and give players the chance to win a national championship almost every year.

UNC has won a national championship, played for one twice and reached the Final Four twice since Duke and Kentucky have won their last titles.

Shittu also had some interesting comments on Kentucky as said that the Wildcats produce a lot of pros and called the program  more of a “business-type” environment.

UNC produced a one-and-done player in Tony Bradley Jr. this year, as the freshman had a nice season in his one-year at Chapel Hill.

Shittu would fit in and would have the chance to play right away in 2018 with the lack of UNC’s depth in the paint.

Williams has recruited Shittu heavily over the last month, watching him in July. Shittu is the No. 1 prospect in Canada and one of the top players in the 2018 class overall.
