UNC has agreed to play a three game series with UNC Greensboro marking the first time the two schools have met on the basketball court. Via UNCG
The series will commence in the 2013-14 season when the Spartans make their first-ever visit to Chapel Hill playing in the Dean Smith Center Dec. 7. It will mark the return of Miller to the arena he played in from 2004-07, winning a National Championship with the Tar Heels in 2005 and leading team to 31-wins as team captain his senior season.
"If we can help one of our former players who is coaching another team, that is also great for our program," North Carolina head coach Roy Williams said. "Wes (Miller) is a great young coach who did a fabulous job as a player at North Carolina and is an important part of our UNC family. We look forward to competing against his teams."
The Tar Heels will make the trip to the Greensboro Coliseum during the 2014-15 season, marking the Spartans' 13th home game against an Atlantic Coast Conference foe in program history. The three-game series will wrap up in the 2015-16 season when UNCG returns to Chapel Hill.
This series continues the tradition of Roy Williams scheduling games against his former players/coaches who are now helming their own programs. UNCG is presently coached by former Tar Heel Wes Miller.
Also on the schedule for next season, UNC will participate in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The Tar Heels actually open the tournament in Chapel Hill against Holy Cross on November 15th and Belmont on November 17th. Six days later UNC travels to Connecticut to face Richmond. The championship/consolation game will follow on November 24th against either Fairfield or Louisville.
