Tyler Roberson Will Return to Syracuse for Senior Season

Well, this is certainly a relief for Syracuse fans.

Given the departures of both Kaleb Joseph and Chinoso Obokoh from the Syracuse Orange basketball team, we really couldn't afford any more unexpected changes to the roster -- even with scholarships to give.

Well, consider one potential question mark solidified. Forward Tyler Roberson will be back next year, according to his high school coach Tommy Sacks. Syracuse.com first reported the story this morning.

Sacks told Mike Waters that Roberson is "100-percent back with the Orange" via text message on Wednesday. The Roselle Catholic High School coach said he spoke with the player on Wednesday regarding his decision.

We didn't run with the rumors here, but there had been talks of the 6-foot-9 starting power forward departing for either the NBA Draft or more likely, playing overseas. While he did average 8.8 points and 8.5 rebounds on an SU team that went to the Final Four this year, there was talk about the impact of Jim Boeheim's criticism of him being a factor that could push him elsewhere. Thankfully, that was not the case.

With Roberson's return, we're still waiting on Tyler Lydon and Malachi Richardson's ultimate plans for 2016-17, before we truly know who's coming back for next season. If the the two star freshmen come back, and the team adds another name or two to the incoming group of players in 2016, SU could be well-situated to pick up right where they left off this season. There are currently three scholarships to give, assuming no one else departs.
