Game Recap

A valiant effort by the Irish should not go under-appreciated, despite the final score.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hung tough against the 13th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on the road Tuesday night, but couldn’t pull the win out in the end. When the clock struck zero, the Irish dropped the decision, 75-69.

Despite the loss, the young guys from Notre Dame showed some toughness, and John Mooney showed why he’s one of the best big guys in the ACC. He registered yet another double-double, finishing the game with 16 points and 17 rebounds. DJ Harvey showed some flashes of being the player we think he can still be, scoring 15 points. Prentiss Hubb also added 18, emerging from his recent poor shooting streak and providing some hope for the near future at the point guard/shooting guard position for Notre Dame.

The Irish move to 11-6 with the lost, which is still a respectable record in a tough year, despite the schedule. This is still a team that Mike Brey is working to pull together in the second half of the ACC schedule, and they can still be exciting. Don’t tune out completely just yet, Irish fans.

Notre Dame will take on 17th-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack in three days back in Purcell Pavilion with another opportunity to grow as a young team.
