Three conference games offer three different kinds of tension on October 20: a model-market split in Conference USA, a Sun Belt matchup projected to go down to the wire, and a Delaware-Missouri State meeting where the quarterbacks could drive the story. The simulations see little daylight between several of these teams, making execution—and every scoring opportunity—especially important.
Middle Tennessee at FIU
At first glance, Middle Tennessee visiting FIU is a classic market-versus-model test. Vegas lists FIU as a 10-point favorite, but GameSim’s 500 simulations give the Blue Raiders a 53% win probability and project a 24.8-22.9 result in their favor. That is a substantial gap between the market’s spread and the model’s close-game outlook. Explore the full prediction.
FIU quarterback J.J. Kohl is projected for 301.1 passing yards and 2.2 touchdowns, a tempting path for the Panthers to turn their presumed favorite status into points. Middle Tennessee’s Roman Gagliano is forecast for 235.3 yards and 2.1 scores through the air, while Antonio Martin’s 70.3 projected rushing yards give the visitors another way to keep the offense moving. If the Blue Raiders can sustain drives, their model edge could matter late.
South Alabama at Marshall
The Sun Belt meeting between South Alabama and Marshall looks even tighter. The model projects Marshall by less than a point, 34.4-33.5, with a 51% win probability across 500 simulations. Vegas lists South Alabama as the favorite by three, setting up another matchup where the prediction and market point in different directions. The 62.5-point total signals an expectation of plenty of offense. See the matchup projection.
Marshall’s Carlos Del Rio-Wilson is projected for 287.3 passing yards and 3.1 touchdowns, while South Alabama’s Jared Hollins is forecast for 258.6 yards and 2.4 scores. The Jaguars also have several projected contributors on the ground: Keenan Phillips at 65.9 yards, PJ Martin at 63.3, and Trae’von Dunbar at 51.2. With the projected margin so slim, those complementary rushing options could help determine who controls the closing stretch.
Missouri State at Delaware
In the other Conference USA contest, Missouri State travels to face Delaware. GameSim gives the Blue Hens a 55% win probability and a 29.7-26.1 projected score, with Vegas setting the spread at three. Delaware quarterback Tyler Bell’s projection—325 passing yards and 3.0 touchdowns—makes him a central figure, but Missouri State’s Skyler Locklear is close behind at 289.1 yards and 2.6 scores. Across the slate, the models favor close finishes and productive passing games, but the market tells a different story in the first two matchups. Detailed projected player stats for all games are available exclusively to GameSim+ subscribers. Learn more and subscribe.
