Continuing with its college football previews Athlon Sports released its list of top ACC stadiums for 2013-14, and according to author Branden Gall Syracuse's home turf, the Carrier Dome, ranks ninth in the 14-team league.
Now, before you go on sending Gall a rash of hate mail -- here's looking at you DOC Daryl Gross -- consider a few things: 1) The Carrier Dome is over 30 years old; 2) over the last decade or so it has had a lot of trouble filling to capacity; and 3) it is better than Duke's, Wake Forest's, Boston College's, Miami's and Maryland's home stadiums.
Here's what Gall had to say about the "Loud House":
If one can get past the fact that a dome named after a HVAC corporation doesn’t have air conditioning, the Orange’s home has plenty of character to offer. Nicknamed "The Loud House," the Cuse’s home has a Teflon-coated, fiberglass inflatable roof that is one of the loudest in the nation. However, while it has been home to many historic showdowns and is the nation’s largest basketball arena, the Carrier Dome has seen better days and is failing to reach capacity on a regular basis.
The only thing that should have bumped up the Carrier Dome is its ability to sell beer, which is uncommon among a majority of ACC schools.
The top stadium to visit, according to Gall, is Clemson's Memorial Stadium (no argument here), while Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium (yeap) and Florida State's Doak Campbell Stadium rounded out the top three (sounds good to me).
This season, the Orange will visit Carter-Finley Stadium (N.C. State), ranked No. 5, on Oct. 12; Bobby Dodd Stadium (Ga. Tech), ranked No. 6, on Oct. 19; Maryland (Nov. 9) and Florida State (Nov. 16).
