Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets? More like...

The Syracuse Orange (16-11, 8-6) will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (15-11, 6-7) on Sunday night. Syracuse is on a two game slide while Georgia Tech is coming off a loss at Miami. Both teams are right on the NCAA Tournament bubble, so a win over a fellow bubble team figures to bode well for the winning squad.

So just how is Tech a bubble team with only 15 wins and being under .500 in the conference? Well, GT has some marquee wins including a road victory over VCU and wins over ranked ACC foes in UNC, Notre Dame and Florida State.

Sunday’s game won’t be a cake walk. Georgia Tech is led by dynamic freshman guard Josh Okogie. He averages 15.4 points, 4.9 boards, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Despite having a sprained ankle, Ben Lammers should be good to go on Sunday. He can give Syracuse fits on the glass as he snags nearly 10 boards per. Lammers is second in scoring while Tadric Jackson and Quinton Stevens are third and fourth, respectively. Both average double-figures and are capable of knocking down shots from deep.

Georgia Tech is a top 10 defensive team in the country and only allows 66.7 points per. Syracuse has struggled on the road this season despite winning two of its last three away from the Carrier Dome. It will once again have its work cut out for itself as it tries to find answers on the road against a tough defensive team. Josh Pastner has done a tremendous job in his first year and his team has taken on his identity.

Bracketology

Of note, ESPN’s unnamed resident bracketologist had Syracuse among the last four teams in the tournament in the most recent bracketology. Georgia Tech meanwhile, was listed among the first four out along with Clemson and Wake Forest. As promised, we will only allude to who said bracketogist is. No more naming names.
