Syracuse: Tight End Josh Parrish Eyeing Return Vs. Maryland

When could Syracuse get its starting tight end back? Maybe, by next week's game versus Maryland, says a Syracuse.com report.

The Syracuse Orange will be without starting tight end Josh Parris for Saturday's showdown at the Central Michigan Chippewas, but a return to the playing field could come the following week against the visiting Maryland Terrapins, a report for Syracuse.com's Nate Mink suggests.

Parrish, who missed the season-opening win over the Villanova Wildcats, Aug. 29, because of pre-season knee surgery has been progressing well, says Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer, just not well enough to play this week.

"I think to be fair to Josh, I think Maryland is probably a better fit for him," he said.

"I think he's close enough to play, it's just how much he can get done in the next two or three practices. I think he's close. It's just a function of how many reps can he get, how many times can he get in there and get tangled up and have confidence in his body."

In his absence, the Orange (1-0) started sophomore Kendall Moore and freshman Tyler Provo to replace the redshirt sophomore. Both of the first-time starters did not have productive days, however, Moore did catch the would-be, game-winning touchdown pass from punter Riley Dixon in SU's double-overtime victory.

According to Shafer, another Orange receiving target that will not see the playing field Saturday will be freshmen wide out Adly Enoicy, who didn't see any action in SU's first game.

Syracuse faces the Chippewas at Noon on Saturday (ESPN News). The following week they host the Terps at 12:30 p.m.
