Dino Babers continues addressing areas of need.

The Syracuse Orange led off Monday morning with some important news on the football recruiting front. Three-star Florida (Palm Beach Gardens) safety Cameron Jonas has committed for the class of 2018.

Jonas, who stands at 6-foot-1 and 187 pounds, is yet another nationally-ranked prospect for this promising Syracuse class. He’s top-600 in 247Sports’ composite rankings, 45th among safeties and 95th among all Florida prospects. The Dwyer High School product took an unofficial visit to SU back in July, and came away pretty impressed with the atmosphere the Orange had to offer.

As you’d expect with most Florida commits, secondary coach Nick Monroe was the main recruiter. This season, he’s been closely involved with commitments from both Jonas and running back Akeem Dixon.

Jonas’s commitment is also another nice recruiting win for Syracuse over much “bigger” names. Along with an offer from SU, the safety also had offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, UCLA, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin (among others).

Well done to the staff on its third major addition in the last week. Former four-star JUCO defensive end transfer Alton Robinson arrived on campus on Sunday, and four-star receiver Edward Hendrix committed on Wednesday.

Jonas is the 14th commit for 2018, but just the fourth on the defensive side of the football. He’s also the first safety — a position that seems crowded right now, but will clear up in the next year or two.

Congrats to Cameron, who will hopefully prompt the Carrier Dome PA announcers to play Weezer’s “My Name is Jonas” after big plays for years to come. Check out some highlights below.
