Game Recap

Burn everything. All of it.

After coming off a solid win against Eastern Michigan on Monday, the Syracuse Orange looked to build momentum against former Big East foe St. John’s tonight at home. That certainly didn’t happen — quite the contrary. Syracuse lost 90-63 to the Red Storm in an absolutely dismal performance.

St. John’s came out in a box-and-1 defense with the lone man defender glued to Andrew White. While Chris Mullin mixed defenses, Syracuse found itself in a hole early as St. John’s attacked the 2-3 zone in its 1-4 set.

With so many open shots from three, the Johnnies built its largest lead of the half at 15. White was held scoreless in the first but Syracuse was able to cut the St. John’s lead to 10 at the half behind Taurean Thompson and Tyler Lydon.

Syracuse came out strong briefly in the second, namely DaJuan Coleman as he scored six straight to get the Orange within six. St. John’s would fight back however and pushed its lead back to 12 and never looked back. Chris Mullin’s team routed Syracuse in its worst of five losses.

Syracuse now moves to 7-5 on the season and will reconvene after the Holiday. The Orange host Cornell next week on Tuesday. That game tips at 7 p.m. from the Carrier Dome.
