Previewing #25 Maryland vs. #8 FSU

The older I get, the harder it is to remember little things like "when was the last time the Maryland football team or the basketball team was ranked?".  I'm too lazy to look it up but I know that it has been too long.

In order to keep the current "ranked" status from being a fleeting one, the Terps are going to need a Herculean effort today in Tallahassee. FSU hasn't played a quality opponent yet, but they've blown out everyone who have they have lined up against.  Then again, so has Maryland.

If you're like me, you're buoyed by the fact that West Virginia, a team Maryland obliterated, beat #11 Oklahoma State last weekend.  Clearly OSU was overrated but West Virginia can actually play and the fact that Maryland dominated them indicates that the Terps are more than just good.  They are VERY good.

Still, Maryland is going on the road and that makes the job much tougher.  The Terps have a good defense and FSU has a high octane offense.  An offense that is led by a redshirt freshman, Jameis Winston.  The Terps are going to need to force a ton of turnovers to keep Winston in check.

I think our boys are up to the task.  A win would be a program changer.  A signature win that would signify Maryland's arrival on the national stage. The Terps would instantly vault into the top 15 and it would set up a salivating match up at the end of the month against top 5 Clemson.

It's too early to get excited for that.  The first order of business is play mistake-free football in Tallahassee.  Can they do it?  Yes.  Will they?  I sure hope so.  It would make my day, possibly my October.

Prediction Maryland 38, Florida State 35
