The #9 Tar Heels beat Davidson by 33 in the Dean Dome.

Fresh off of their win against #2 Maryland, the Heels picked right up where they left off and began the game on a 10-0 run in the first 4 minutes. The period until the first media timeout was epitomized by good Carolina defense and decent offense in the half court. The Heels standout offensive player of the first 5 minutes was Brice Johnson who aggressively looked for his shot and made all of his free throws to lead Carolina with 5 of their first 10 points.

Carolina shot well from distance to start the game and saw looks from Marcus Paige, Nate Britt and Joel Berry drop. After a strong defensive start, the Heels defense went through a bit of a rough patch, the Wildcats took advantage of some ball watching and produced points off backside actions and backdoor cuts. The Heels kept it up on offense however and with 11:06 left in the half the Heels led by 12, 25-13. Carolina and Davidson traded possessions until the under eight timeout with Carolina taking a 13 point lead into that break.

The Heels came out of the under eight timeout with a renewed focus on defense, holding the Wildcats scoreless for the next three minutes of game time and opening up a 19 point lead before the Wildcats scored. Carolina stepped it up on offense down the stretch and cruised to a 23 point lead 47-24 at the half.

The second half was much of the same. Carolina kept up their hot shooting from outside as well as their commitment to defense to lead by 22 by the under sixteen timeout. Coach Williams took advantage of the blowout and heavily rested his starters who barely played at all in the second half. The Wildcats never cut the deficit to single digits and the Heels cruised to a 33 point win, 98-65.
