After two-straight days of everyone figuratively poking holes in the Carrier Dome, and the demise of the proposed new arena, Chancellor Kent Syverud announced that Syracuse University will begin the process of renovating the roughly 33-year-old stadium.
"As much as I would like to have all questions about all alternatives answered on my first day as Chancellor, the development of any similar facility is challenging," he said. "The process is dynamic and requires coordination to be successful. I am monitoring the process and aggressively seeking answers."
"I am committed to continuing to work together to meet the challenge presented in this analysis," he said. "Whatever conclusion we reach, our collective objective will be to find a solution that is best for the University and the community."
If this whole thing were a tightly-plotted AMC show, we'd now cut to the shot of DOCTOR Gross leaning back in his chair, puffing on a cigar before we pan in on his computer screen to reveal that he masterminded the entire thing. And then zombies would appear just out of frame, which is weird because zombies are really loud so you'd think we'd have heard them coming, however, for some unknown reason, they stayed extremely quiet just before appearing.
Obviously, no specifics have been presented and we're extremely early in the process. We don't know if this is going to be a lot of lipstick on a pig or a complete overhaul ala Washington's Husky Stadium. Personally, I think this is the way to go. There's no reason for Syracuse to become a tenant elsewhere when they own the building right here on campus. If you want better facilities, make them yourself.
