The 2018-2019 Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s basketball schedule continues to be built out, as it was announced today that ND will be hosting the 2018 Gotham Classic. This is the first time in program history that the Irish have hosted a full in-season tournament.

The Gotham Classic, which is put on by the Gazelle Group, is a ‘multi-team exempt’ college basketball event, allowing all four contests to count as just one toward the cap of 31 scheduled games on the 2018-19 Notre Dame schedule.
The Illinois-Chicago Flames, Radford Highlanders, and William & Mary Tribe will all visit for the Notre Dame Regional (November 6th-17th), and then Notre Dame and the Duquesne Dukes will play in the Showcase Game on November 20th.
Mike Brey offered up a quote on the importance of the Irish hosting the Gotham Classic this year, saying, “With an international trip this summer, plus games in Madison Square Garden and at UCLA, it was a priority to get as many home games as possible for our developing group this year.”
“We will be challenged by all four of these teams, who are among the top emerging programs in the country right now,” Brey said.
Overall, it should be a fun little home game slate for an extremely young Irish team early next season, providing a chance for development of skills and chemistry, and for building up the experience of newcomers like Juwan Durham, Nate Laszewski, Prentiss Hubb (assuming he’s recovered from his torn ACL), etc.
