Incoming Syracuse Orange freshman Luke Fennell will have a stop-over in Switzerland on his way to Central New York this summer.

The 6’6” guard was named to Australia’s U19 World Cup squad which will compete this summer. He’s coming off a season with the South East Melbourne Phoenix in Australia’s National Basketball League where he didn’t play much but was practicing with pros including former Michigan point guard Derrick Walton, Jr.

The FIBA U19 World Cup will be held in Switzerland from 28 June to 6 July. This will delay Fennell’s arrival in Syracuse, but it’s another round of international competition for the combo guard. He’s definitely looking forward to getting in front of the Orange fans and one particular legend

“Syracuse is definitely a big school, which I really like. Their gym holds more than 35,000 people, and Carmelo [Anthony] went through there, so having something to live up to is the place I want to be at.

“I wanted to be around people that are hungry, people that want to be the best versions of themselves and still haven’t reached that stage of being a pro yet. I’m excited to be around that high-pressure environment where iron sharpens iron, everyone wanting to be great, so I think that’s the environment that’s gonna help me.”

We’ll keep an eye out on Fennell during the U19 World Cup this summer.
