Hokies to Play in 2K Classic in 2017-18 Season

The Hokies will play in the 2017-18 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden next November

The Virginia Tech Hokies are in the midst of their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2007 season as they await their opponent for Wednesday evening in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

At 21-9 overall, and 10-8 in the ACC, the Hokies have proven that they are now much more than a football school. Buzz Williams, now in his third season at the helm as head coach, has completely turned the program around from the recruiting trail to the on-court product.

Now, with the Virginia Tech basketball team being recognized as a solid product in a tough ACC, a tougher non-conference schedule will be in store, beginning next November, as the Hokies have been confirmed as one of the early handful of teams who have accepted an invitation to the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden next season.

Washington should be losing a good bit of their talent, namely Markelle Fultz, but will be bringing in one of the top recruits in the country at small forward with Michael Porter Jr. They’ll be must-see TV with the future NBA lottery pick in the cards.

With a week left until Selection Sunday, Providence sits at a respectable 20-11, with a 10-8 record in the Big East. They’re likely NCAA tournament bound save for a bad loss in the upcoming Big East Tournament.

Saint Louis meanwhile has been down this year, but is bringing in a solid recruiting class heading into next season and is expected to be much improved.

It’s never too early to look forward to exciting match-ups, even if they are eight-plus months away, and this 2K Classic will be no exception, as the Hokies will have an early opportunity to make their presence felt next season.
