Demetrius Jackson Likely Out Against Orange

After suffering a right hamstring injury during the first few minutes of Saturday's game against Boston College, Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey doesn't believe his star point guard will see the court this Thursday when the team faces Syracuse.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-5, 5-2 ACC) point guard Demetrius Jackson may not see any action this Thursday against the Syracuse Orange (13-8, 3-5 ACC). Jackson suffered an injury to his right hamstring during the first two minutes of the Irish's game against Boston College Saturday. Head Coach Mike Brey said he was day-to-day after the game.

This morning, during the weekly ACC Teleconference, Brey said that he and his staff wanted to be careful with how they handle Jackson's situation:

"We're trying to get our point guard back," Brey said. "His hamstring issue is something that, as we all know, hamstrings are tricky to read. You don't want to bring him back too soon. As we prepare for Thursday, we're preparing as if we won't have him."

Jackson took the ball up the court in transition, attempted to dribble around his back, lost control, and dove to tap it to teammate V.J. Beachem. After Beachem scored and was fouled, Jackson was helped up by Eagles' defender Jerome Robinson, took three steps, and promptly grabbed his right hamstring in agony. He got off the court and was escorted into the locker room minutes later, after the game had resumed.

As Syracuse.com's Chris Carlson reported, Brey is doubtful that Jackson will be ready for Thursday's duel in the Dome.

Jackson is averaging 16.6 points, 5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds on the season, and has been a very important piece to the No. 1 ranking in adjusted offensive efficiency it has received from basketball statistician Ken Pomeroy.
