Bobby Petrino says it's possible Trevon Young could play in 2016

Since the night that Trevon Young suffered a dislocated and fractured hip in the first quarter of Louisville's Music City Bowl win over Texas A&M, there has been an assumption that the outside linebacker would miss all of the 2016 season while recovering.

Young had surgery to repair the injury the day after the game, and was given a recovery time of 8-12 months. But when Bobby Petrino was asked last Friday if there was a possibility of Young seeing the field this fall, the Cardinal head coach was optimistic.

"You know, I think there is," Petrino said on 93.9 The Ville. "He continues to get better, he's improving. I think what it's going to come down to is when he starts going full speed and changes direction at maximum speed, what happens with pain and how he feels about that. I talked to him the other day and he said he's feeling a lot better, but he wasn't ready to go full speed yet."

Getting Young back would be a huge boost for a Cardinal defense already loaded with returning starters. He had a breakout junior season in 2015, registering 8.5 sacks, 32 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. His 8.5 sacks were second on the team behind Devonte Fields, and seventh in the ACC.
