Game Recap

Winning on the road is never easy in the ACC, just ask Duke and Miami.  The Blue Devils and Hurricanes are the two highest ranked teams in the league and visited two teams in Wake Forest and Virginia Tech that sit toward the bottom of league standings.  In both cases, the home team gave the ranked team all they wanted.  Neither one won easily, but as Krzyzewski said after the game you don't win by 20 in the ACC without the other team helping you.

Duke's Mason Plumlee played like a player of the year candidate, scoring 32 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in Duke's 75-70 victory over Wake Forest.  The young Wake Forest frontcourt simply had no answer for Plumlee down low.  The Blue Devils were carried by Plumlee and Curry who had 21 points.  The big concern for Duke was their defense and inability to keep Wake Forest from getting easy layups and dunks.  Wake made 53% of their 2 point shots.  This is where Ryan Kelly is missed the most, Kelly's ability to rotate and recover is something Duke's second big is still struggling to master.

Miami stayed undefeated with a 73-64 victory over Virginia Tech.  Shane Larkin led the way with 25 points in the victory for Miami.  Kenny Kadji woke up late in the second half and finished with 18 points, while Trey McKinney Jones also reached double-figures with 12 points.  Miami followed a similar model as other Virginia Tech opponents, giving up 30 points to Erick Green but not allowing anyone else to score efficiently.

The other matchup of the night saw Michael Snaer hit another game-winner in the final few seconds to lift FSU to a 73-71 victory.  It was FSU's 5th win on a last second shot in their last 14 ACC matchups.  Snaer has emerged as Mr. Clutch nationally and perhaps the most impressive thing about this one was that he had a second to catch and realize how open he was.  It's often hard to make a shot in that situation when the game isn't on the line, but in such a high pressure situation Snaer must have ice in his veins.
