ACC Coastal Division Report Card

In the blink of an eye, the 2013 ACC football season has ended. Here's a report card for all seven ACC Coastal Division Teams.

Duke-Sure, I thought they had a shot at going to a bowl game this year. But I wasn't expecting it to be the Chick Fil A Bowl, nor was I expecting them to make the ACC title game. This season was a rousing success for the Blue Devils thanks to strong quarterback play, a good running game, and a defense that was solid enough to keep them in games. Grade: A

Georgia Tech-Meet the new season. It's the same as the old season. Ever since Paul Johnson's first season when they went to the Orange Bowl, it's been a seven or eight win season, and a loss in a bowl game (except for last season.) The continued theme is the passing game can't convert when they need it too, and now Vad Lee is gone. He didn't live up to the hype at all this season. Grade: C

Miami-The Hurricanes got off to a fast start, thanks in large part to playing a lot of incompetent offenses early, but thanks to injuries and playing better offenses, cooled off at the end of the season. The Hurricanes still won nine games, and were in the ACC Coastal Division hunt until the end.  Grade: B-

North Carolina-After starting 1-5, the Tar Heels won five straight, getting them to bowl eligibility. Despite losing Bryn Renner to injury late in the season, the offense was still strong behind Marquise Williams, thanks in large part to his dual threat ability. The Tar Heels also won their bowl game in convincing fashion, finishing the season with seven wins. Grade C+

Pittsburgh-Year number one in the ACC went well. The Panthers won seven games, and went to a bowl in their first season in the conference. Tyler Boyd and Devin Street emerged as one of the best receiver tandems in the conference, and the two running backs, James Conner and Isaac Bennett, had strong seasons as well. Grade: C+

Virginia-There was one word to describe this season by the Cavs: disastrous. The quarterback play was the main problem throughout the season, and the defense suffered some as a result. The Cavs didn't win a game after September, despite being competitive in a lot of their games. Grade: F

Virginia Tech-Per usual, the defense was among the best in the nation. Unfortunately, the offense held the team back. Logan Thomas was mostly bad, and the running game suffered behind a subpar offensive line. Despite all of that, the Hokies won eight games, and made a bowl again. Grade: B-
