Who Were The Winners In Week 2 Of 2020 NCAA Football?

People checking their Daily Fantasy Sports stats for college football this week were likely disappointed. Unless they had a lot of underdogs on their roster, they probably took a beating this week.

It was a week full of surprises as there were upsets galore. It was also a strange week to not be checking in on the Big Ten or PAC-12 since they suspended their seasons due to Covid-19 concerns.

Even with all the oddities it should come as a welcome surprise for any college football fan as it means that there is a lot more talent across all the teams this year which should make for an exciting season.

The Sun Belt

Three wins against the Big 12 this week put everybody on notice. There are going to be some surprises this season out of the Sun Belt and this makes for some drama to be expected.

This is not like every other year when Appalachian State hogs the spotlight. It seems like this year some other teams are going to get some exposure and turn a lot of heads in the process.

Arkansas State, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina and the rest of the conference are making some waves and definitely deserve some respect.

Louisiana

After knocking Iowa State off its perch at number 25, Louisiana cracked the Top 25 and deservedly so. You could make a case that they should have even earlier, in fact.

The score may not show it, but it was the defensive line that saved the day. There were no plays over 19 yards allowed throughout the entire game against Iowa. Turnovers, interceptions and lots of incomplete passes by Purdy may make it look like Iowa lost the game more than Louisiana won it, but don’t forget that the defense played a huge part in the poor offensive performance.

Arkansas State

Though you can pencil Arkansas State in for the postseason even before the season starts every year, this game against Kansas State was still chock full of surprises. It’s their first win against a Power 5 team since a 2008 victory against Texas A&M.

They simply smothered the Wildcats offence by limiting them to 91 yards on the ground and only allowed 1 of 11 tries at third down to be completed. If they can keep up that kind of dominance with their defence then this season will be fun to watch as they lock up that postseason berth.

Spencer Rattler

All eyes are on Rattler as he contends for the Heisman Trophy and he certainly soaked up the spotlight this weekend. He did not disappoint in his starting debut for Oklahoma against Missouri State.

Racking up 290 passing yards and four touchdowns while only notching three incompletions he solidified his position as the player to watch this season. And as a redshirt freshman, it is all the more impressive.

Fans of a big offence that leans on the passing game certainly have a lot to look forward to if this weekend was a preview of the season ahead.
