UNC's Meeks Doubtful for ACC Second Round

Roy Williams and Brice Johnson met the media on Tuesday morning prior to practice and ahead of UNC's entrance into the 2015 ACC tournament on Wednesday.

Williams said that Tar Heel sophomore center Kennedy Meeks was again battling an illness of some sort. On Monday night during his radio program, Williams indicated Meeks had been running 102 degree fever that day. During this morning's press conference, Williams said the fever had gone down then returned today. Meeks has been tested for strep throat, mono, etc but those tests have been negative.

Williams stated he did not think Meeks would play on Wednesday in Greensboro against the winner of today's Boston College-Georgia Tech First Round game. The caveat there is Williams has a penchant for giving a dire assessment of a player's availability only to see said player on the court for the game.

If Meeks is out for Wednesday, Boston College is probably the better match-up for UNC. In UNC's 78-68 win over Boston College on February 7th, Meeks did not start and played limited minutes. Part of that was motivational on Williams' part but it was also about the match-up with the Eagles. Isaiah Hicks scored 21 points and had five rebounds while Brice Johnson had 20 points and 10 boards in the win.

Playing Georgia Tech without Meeks presents a problem for UNC given the Yellow Jackets' size in the post. That being said, the Jackets are also without leading scorer Marcus Georges-Hunt and UNC has beaten Georgia Tech twice by a total of 61 points. Given that level of dominance, it stands to reason not having Meeks may not be a huge concern.
