UNC: Hairston Doubtful, McAdoo's Back Hurts and the Flu

According to Roy Williams, P.J. Hairston is not likely to play on Tuesday having contracted a flu bug to go along with his concussion from last week. He is one of three Tar Heels dealing with one ailment or another.

“Right now I think it's doubtful that P.J. Hairston will play tomorrow night. Yesterday when I left practice I thought that he would practice, but last night he got a little flu bug and he's been throwing up last night and this morning. They've got him over at the hospital right now with some IVs, so I think that'll postpone some of the things that he could do today in practice that could have got him ready. I'm not saying he's not going to play, but I think it's highly unlikely.”

“Yesterday he came in and did some shooting and moved around, and I was really enthused. The only thing I wasn't enthused about is that Desmond is laying over there against the goal support because he was sick and throwing up yesterday, and James Michael didn't practice because he hurt his back at the end of the game. And one of our other players was going to the bathroom - more information than you guys need to know - about every 10 minutes. I think it's just going through our team right now.

“I was very enthused when I left practice at 6:00 yesterday, and then I got in this morning and found out what kind of night PJ had and talked to him over at the hospital, so I'm not enthused at all right now.”

It would appear that some sort of flu bug is making the rounds on the team with P.J. Hairston and Desmond Hubert suffering ill effects from it. James Michael McAdoo injured his back near the end of the Virginia Tech game and did not practice on Sunday as a result. At this point, I would expect McAdoo to play but the jury is still out on both Hubert and Hairston.

Hairston's situation is a bit more complicated since he is coming off the concussion a week ago and now some sort of stomach flu has been added on top of that. The hope was Hairston would be able to practice today but since he had to receive fluids at the hospital, the chances he does anything more than watching is remote. That makes facing Wake Forest a bit tougher and puts pressure on Reggie Bullock and Leslie McDonald to not be a combined 1-13 from three again.
