It was a monster afternoon for Louisville’s sophomore duo.

Samuell Williamson scored 20 points and hustled his way to a career-high 18 rebounds as Louisville rolled past Georgia Tech, 74-58, for a rare Monday afternoon victory inside the KFC Yum Center. The much-needed win improved the Cardinals to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the ACC.

David Johnson was the man early on for Louisville. His four first half three-pointers helped the Cardinals erase a 14-7 deficit and seize control of the game. Johnson ended the day with new career-highs in points (24), three-pointers made (6) and field goals made (9). He also tossed in 10 rebounds and a pair of steals for good measure.

As impressive as Johnson was, the headlines for this one will likely belong to Williamson, who is apparently Charles Barkley when he comes off the bench. The oft-discussed former McDonald’s All-American was relentless on both ends of the floor, and was the best player inside the Yum Center during the key stretches at the end of the first half and beginning of the second where Louisville put the game away.

On the defensive end, U of L held its visitors to just 32.4 percent shooting from the field, and an 8-for-27 (29.6 percent) effort from beyond the arc. Jose Alvarado, Georgia Tech’s leading scorer, was held to just seven points, matching his lowest scoring output of the season.

Louisville is now 8-1 in games against Georgia Tech since joining the ACC in 2014-15.

That was a hell of a way to start a massively important three-game week. Let’s rest up and go get another one in 48 hours.
