Thanks to yet another strong performance from its backcourt, Louisville erased an early 10-3 deficit and coasted to a 76-64 road win over Boston College Saturday at Conte Forum.

Louisville’s David Johnson was the best player on the floor for most of the afternoon. The sophomore guard hit four of his six three-point attempts, grabbed eight rebounds, and finished the game with a career-high 20 points. Samuell Williamson (12), Dre Davis (11), and Carlik Jones (15) joined Johnson as double figure scorers.

Jones had one of his worst shooting games of the season, scoring 15 points despite going just 3-of-13 from the field. He made up for that deficiency by hitting nine free-throws, dishing out a team-high six assists, and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.

Louisville won fairly comfortably despite taking nine fewer free-throws than their hosts, a number which was much larger up until the game’s closing minutes. The Cards were outscored by six at the charity stripe.

Boston College was led by sharpshooting Jay Heath, who had a big game against U of L for a second straight year. The sophomore guard hit four of his six three-point attempts on his way to 20 points. Just like Johnson, the 20 points were a career-high for Heath.

As a team, BC was 8-of-33 from beyond the arc, good for 24.2 percent.

With the win, Louisville improved to 7-1 against Boston College since joining the ACC in 2014-15. The Cards and Eagles will play again on Jan. 30 inside the KFC Yum Center.

Even though the officials completely ruined the flow of the game in the second half, this was a very solid start to 2021 for Louisville. The effort level was terrific, the offensive execution was great, and the perimeter defense was on point. That’s the recipe for a 12-point road win over BC.
