Game Recap

Enhanced Box Score

Boston College defeated Providence College in what has become a trademark type of game for BC. The Eagles built up a double digit lead before allowing the Friars to creep back in and make it close. BC clearly outplayed Providence for the majority of the game, but poor free throw shooting hurt us late down the stretch. The free throw shooting is becoming a real issue now. Its just a matter of time before it costs us a game. I know the team practices free throw shooting every practice, but something needs to change. Perhaps they should try running sprints before hand or simulating crowd noise. Whatever the case the team needs to mentally prepare and focus because they don't call them FREE throws for nothing.

BC was helped by horrid shooting by PC and an outstanding individual effort from Joe Trapani, who finished with 18 points. Tyrese Rice broke out of his scoring slump to lead the team with 20 points. Rice added 7 assists, but committed 7 turnovers as well. Rice made some bad passes when Providence put full court pressure on in the final minutes of the game. BC must devise a better press break than simply throwing lob passes. Faster, more athletic teams in the ACC will be able to man handle BC if we cannot break the press. Corey Raji also chipped in 10 for BC.

This is becoming a patented win for this team. Its not pretty but a win is a win and BC improves to 9-2 on the year with 3 games left before we take on UNC. Its good to see coach Skinner using his bench and players like Dunn and Roche contributing. They each provide a nice spark for the few minutes they get on the court. Dunn plays good, hard defense and Roche has continued to showcase his ability to spot up for the three. The balanced scoring attack is a plus for BC, because so many teams will be focusing on Tyrese Rice it could really open up some opportunities for Trapani and Raji. Rakim Sanders also has as much scoring potential as anyone on this team, but he has been inconsistent thus far. I'm hoping he can hit his stride in time for conference play.
