The headliner: Green Bay walks into Detroit predicted as a big underdog

Sunday afternoon in the NFC North, and the sims are not shy about this one. Green Bay at Detroit: the GameSim projection has Detroit 26.5, Green Bay 17.6, across 1,080 simulations. That is an 8.9-point home call in a divisional game, and it is the kind of number that says the model sees a tier gap, not a rivalry toss-up.
My take: divisional games are supposed to be close, and the sims just declined to cooperate. Detroit at home, nearly nine points of separation, against a Green Bay team that always travels well. If the Lions cover a number like that against the Packers, the conversation about the NFC North changes by Sunday night.
The rivalry game: Baltimore favored big over Cincinnati
The AFC North gets its own statement number. Cincinnati at Baltimore: Baltimore 32.6, Cincinnati 23.6, across 1,080 simulations, a nine-point home call. And out west in the late window, Kansas City at Seattle: Kansas City 22.0, Seattle 17.9, a 4.1-point road call for the Chiefs.
My take: the Baltimore number is the loud one. Nine points in a rivalry game is the model saying the gap is real, not a matchup quirk. The Kansas City call is quieter but just as interesting, a road favorite by four in a building that is never easy to win in.
The blowout board: Minnesota, the Jets, Atlanta, and Houston
Four more games carry clear leans. Indianapolis at Minnesota: Minnesota 29.8, Indianapolis 13.5, the biggest margin on the board at 16.3 points. Miami at New York Jets: the Jets 28.0, Miami 13.3, a 14.7-point home call. San Francisco at Atlanta: Atlanta 25.9, San Francisco 16.9, a nine-point home call. New York Giants at Houston: Houston 26.3, the Giants 16.8, a 9.5-point home call.
My take: the Minnesota number is the one to watch early. A 16-point call is the model at its most confident, and those are the games that either validate the sims by halftime or make for a long afternoon of explaining.
The coin flips: two games the sims cannot separate
Not everything is a blowout. Los Angeles Rams at Las Vegas: the Rams 21.4, Las Vegas 20.5, a 0.9-point call across 1,080 simulations. Denver at Arizona: Arizona 16.9, Denver 15.6, a 1.4-point call. Those are the truest toss-ups of the day, and the winner picks there are lottery tickets. The value, as always, is in the totals and the player projections.
The rest of the board
Three more games round out the Sunday card. Pittsburgh at New Orleans: Pittsburgh 23.0, New Orleans 20.0, a field-goal road call. Cleveland at Tennessee: Cleveland 21.2, Tennessee 13.3, a 7.8-point road call. Tampa Bay at Carolina: Carolina 25.6, Tampa Bay 18.5, a seven-point home call.
The report card: 6-for-11 on winners, with the World Series call on the nose
State it plainly first, graded on the final API batch: the featured card from yesterday went 6-for-11 on winners. The biggest miss was the loud one, LSU beating Auburn 38-17 after the sims had Auburn by 19, a 40-point swing. Two more road favorites flipped, Illinois beating Oregon 21-10 and UCF beating BYU 39-31, and the two NBA coin flips split the wrong way, San Antonio winning at Dallas 122-106 and Philadelphia beating Milwaukee 127-116. Those five are on the model, no excuses.
Now the credit side, because the rest of the card held up. The Brewers beat the Rays 5-4, a second straight one-run Milwaukee win right where the sims had it, by a hair. Indiana won at Michigan 13-6, the winner right even if the projected shootout never showed up, the total landing at 19 against a projected 50. Cincinnati beat Texas Tech 37-24, the coin flip of the day landing on the right side, by 13 instead of 1.4. Miami beat Pittsburgh 52-23, winner right and then some. Texas beat Ole Miss 34-27, and Charlotte beat Miami 115-110. Even in the Milwaukee loss, the Bucks scored 116, landing exactly on the final-batch projection. Six winners right, five wrong, and the closest calls broke both ways. That is an honest split night, and the totals and player projections are where the value held up best.
GameSim line: Detroit handles Green Bay at home, Baltimore rolls Cincinnati, Kansas City wins in Seattle, and the Rams survive the coin flip in Las Vegas.
All scores above are MyGameSim projections from the simulations run so far, and none of the games today have been played yet. Yesterday the featured calls went 6-for-11 on winners, with the Brewers call on the nose and the Auburn shocker as the blemish. Run your own sims, check the totals and projected stats, and tell me where the model is wrong today.
