Two franchises, zero titles, and a Game 1 lean toward Milwaukee.

Somebody is winning their first World Series. The Milwaukee Brewers are back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982 after sweeping the Dodgers in the NLCS. The Tampa Bay Rays are back for the first time since 2020 after closing out Cleveland in six games. Game 1 is Friday night, 8:00 PM ET at American Family Field, and MyGameSim has a clear lean in Rays at Brewers: Milwaukee 4.94, Tampa Bay 3.44, with the Brewers winning 33 of the first 50 simulations. That is a 66 percent win share for the home team in the opener. The sim count is still early and will keep growing between now and first pitch, so check back for the updated run before the game, but the direction is set.
ESPN sees it the same way, just tighter
The national preview agrees with the direction and argues about the margin. In ESPN's expert first look, How Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers can win World Series, Bradford Doolittle ran his own formula over 10,000 simulations and landed on Brewers 59 percent, Rays 41 percent for the series. His case for Milwaukee starts with a bullpen that has posted a 1.33 ERA this postseason, backed by a patient offense that drew the second most walks in the majors. His case for Tampa Bay is old school starting pitching depth, a rotation that works deep into games and allows fewer than one baserunner per inning. And in ESPN's preseason predictions piece, 14 of 24 voters picked the Brewers to win it all, with 4 on the Rays, so the bandwagon has been forming for a while.
The odds agree on the favorite, and fight about the runs
The market is with the home team too. ESPN's odds preview, World Series odds: Brewers favored to defeat Rays, lists Milwaukee at -160 to win the series with Tampa Bay at +140, odds by DraftKings. Polymarket prices the series at 62.2 percent Brewers, 37.6 percent Rays. Everybody leans Milwaukee, nobody is handing them the trophy.
Here is where the sims pick a real fight. The Game 1 line in ESPN's preview has the Brewers at -164, the Rays at +135, and a total of just 6.0 runs, with Drew Rasmussen projected to start for Tampa Bay against Jacob Misiorowski for Milwaukee. Two good pitchers, a low number, it makes sense on paper. The MyGameSim projection does not care: 4.94 plus 3.44 is 8.38 runs, more than two full runs over the market total. The model sees both lineups cashing in baserunners against good pitching. The market sees a pitchers duel. One of them is wrong by a lot, and Game 1 answers it in nine innings.
The matchup underneath the numbers
Strip it down and this series is strength on strength. Milwaukee's bullpen has been the best unit in the playoffs, and William Contreras drives the whole operation from behind the plate and the middle of the order. Tampa Bay counters with rotation depth and Rasmussen, who ESPN's panel called the best pitcher in this postseason, carrying a no-hitter deep into a start along the way. Both teams won 55 games at home this year. Both managers, Kevin Cash and Pat Murphy, have two Manager of the Year awards apiece. There is no fluke finalist here.
Perry line: Brewers take Game 1 behind the bullpen, the total sails past 6.0, and this series goes at least six games before Milwaukee finishes it.
