Top College Quarter Backs In 2022

The next star quarterback is out there, somewhere in the NCAA. That’s why football commentators and fans pay so much attention to colleges up and down the country, especially when the draft season comes around.

Today we’re looking at the best quarterbacks that are returning to collegiate football for the 2022 season. If you’re interested in placing bets on collegiate games, and your states allow it, then you should check out NCAAF odds.

1. Bryce Young

It may be predictable but yes, Bryce Young of the Alabama Crimson Tide is still the most promising quarterback in the NCAA right now. In 2021, he was made the starting quarterback and passed 344 yards and 4 touchdowns in his first-ever game. Then he went on to throw for 559 yards, breaking the previous Alabama record for most yards passing in a game.

While he didn’t win the national championship, his 92.2 passing grade puts him in the top three players for 2021. It wasn’t a surprise when he was the winner of the Heisman Trophy. For all of the hype surrounding the Crimson Tide, he was actually the first quarterback from the University of Alabama to win the award. This fall, we’ll see if Young can keep up this level of performance in his junior year.

2. Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams is a new kid on the block, so him being runners-up here is a great accomplishment. Having been the #2 quarterback at the 2021 Draft, he played with the Oklahoma Sooners as a backup to Spencer Rattler. Then came the Texas Longhorns in their rivalry game. Oklahoma was down 17-35 when they unleashed Williams, who led them to a 55-48 win.

Over that game, he made 212 passing yards and 88 rushing yards, with 2 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. He played even better in the next game against Texas Christian University, throwing 295 yards, rushing 66, and making 4 touchdowns. Now he’s transferring to the University of Southern California Trojans to elevate their game.

3. Spencer Rattler

Having mentioned Spencer Rattler, the Oklahoma Sooners quarterback is our next featured player. He’s been in the collegiate pipeline longer than any player mentioned so far, having just completed his junior year with the Sooners. Shortly after, he announced a transfer to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

While his footwork could use, well, work, he’s fast and great at aggressive playmaking where he can put his rigid arm to use. Since 2020, Rattler has dominated collegiate football passer grades, even though he has room to improve his passing too. After a 98.1 passing grade in 2020, he only registered a 45.5 passing grade this year, but he’s still one to watch in 2022.

4. C.J. Stroud

As quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Stroud was in the running for the Heisman Trophy this year but lost out to Bryce Young. In his debut 2020 season, he achieved a 48-yard rushing touchdown, but that’s about it. The interesting stuff comes in 2021, where he became starting quarterback and opened all games but one. He quickly became the only QB in Buckeyes history to throw five touchdowns against Big Ten competitors four times in a season.

The highlight of his 2021 was the Rose Bowl, where he led the team in a 48-45 victory against the Utah Utes after starting 14 points behind. There were inconsistencies but, when the sophomore year was over, he had a 91.8 passing grade.

5. Sam Hartman

Playing for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Sam Hartman is our last promising quarterback. He flew under the radar for most of his freshman and sophomore seasons in 2018 and 2019. What’s clear is that this scholarship student has breathed new life into Wake Forest’s football program.

In 2021, Hartman led his team to an 8-0 start that was better than anything the school had accomplished before. He also registered a career-best 458 yards and 5 touchdowns in a single game, which was against the Army Black Knights. He leads his FBS in deep passing touchdowns at 20 and passed for over 3,900 yards over the course of the season.

Conclusion

Those are some of the best youngbloods that are making their way through collegiate football at the moment. It’s always nice to see some freshman and sophomore players making waves, not just experienced junior and senior students. With their play standard, there’s no doubt that all of them will get snapped up at the draft when their time comes.
